Saturday was 100 laps of mechanized mayhem. Okay, that is a tad overly dramatic. Actually, all was fairly calm and cleanly raced. End of the year races can prompt over the top driving which results in wrecked race cars and frayed nerves. The key to long races is patience. You have to allow things to shake out. In the end, unless you are in the top tier, you run to survive. Thankfully, tires, engine and handling all held up. The coming holiday made for a packed house and the pre-race autograph session and driver introductions were a nice touch. You can't help but smile when you see children's eyes grow big as saucers when they get up close to both car and driver.
One downside - Expenditure to compete has exploded. Granted, you know that going in. But when you are racing against people that have home down payment type monied engines, it just makes it that much tougher. It reeeeally helps if you have an extra thirty, forty grand sittin' around. Can't help but to ask the question -- when does the bubble burst?
September and Tampa Bay appears to be here to stay. Who'd a thunk it? Depressingly, in a sense, people still don't seem to show up down there. They didn't when the Marlins won. How 'bout MLB just scrub Florida altogether as a place for franchises?
The Sox begin their final run of regular season swings and it is the teams (i.e.,Texas) with nothing to play for that can become particularly worrisome.
DVD of the moment -- " The Best Years Of Our Lives." An all time fave. Fredric March, Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews. Timeless, but I wish it weren't in many ways.
TV of the moment - "Documenting The Face Of America" - Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Gordon Parks and more. Amazing work, amazing stories.
Snack of the moment - Kellogg's Chocolate Peanut Butter Corn Pops.
